The Ultimate Boot Disk

CAUTION: The Ultimate Boot Disk is intended for modern PCs running Windows 95 or 98. You should have at least 32MB of RAM and a quad-speed or faster CD-ROM. If your computer does not meet these requirements, try here. The latest version of the Ultimate Boot Disk is at:  startdisk.com

1. Make sure the PC and floppy disk you use are virus-free.

2. Test the bootdisk and make sure it recognizes your CD-ROM.

3. If you did not install Windows to its default C:\WINDOWS location, you must use a text editor to alter the path references to Windows in the Config.sys file and files in the A:\SYS folder.

KNOWN ISSUES

1. FAST BOOT hangs on some PCs. Solution is to use the default boot. From the Windows 95 or 98 startup menu, select choice #6 "SAFE MODE COMMAND PROMPT" and then type: "default" and press ENTER.

 2. Cab file extraction utility slows down disk operations considerably. You may want to reboot following any file extraction to maintain the highest disk speed.

 3. After selecting a FAST BOOT option, Microsoft's startup menu may report "MS-DOS startup failed." Don't be alarmed, it means the MSDOS.SYS file is looking for a previous operating system, which doesn't exist on the bootdisk.
